Question regarding backup

Supposed I am running a backup everyday for my entire cluster.
I understand that ES does incremental backup, so the first backup would be huge, but subsequent ones would be small.
Let's say I have one month worth of backup (30).
If my backup has been too costly and I would like to trim say the first 20 days.
Is this even possible? Meaning am I able to delete the earlier backup copies and still able to restore up to the past 10 days?

Hope my question makes sense.
Will ES preserve part of the first 20 backup files even though I deleted them (through kibana) to allow me to perform full restore?

Yes.
Elasticsearch will store any parts of the snapshot repository that it needs to restore any of the snapshots that aren't deleted. This is mentioned here.
