Selinux Restrictions

I am installing ELK 8.7.1 on an Oracle Linux version.

I was able to install ELK without any problems and the services are in active state without any errors.

When I try to access Kibana through port 5601 from the browser it simply does not load, after several discards, such as giving permissions to the port, disable the operating system firewall, I could only solve it after disabling a service called "SELinux" which was in "enforcing" mode and I passed it to "permisive" mode but still did not load Kibana, I could only solve the problem by completely disabling the service.

My client does not want to disable the service since SELinux is an operating system security level, my question is what should I do to continue with the SELinux service active and that the port 5601 and I suppose that the other necessary ports are not restricted.

How did you install Elasicsearch and Kibana?

SELinux should not impact on this, I have both Elasticsearch and Kibana running on servers with SELinux as enforcing without any issues.

Also, setting it to permissive mode would not block anything, so I'm not sure this is really related to SELinux.

Can you set it back to enforcing, try to start Kibana and share some evidences about this?

Maybe your system was hardened in some way and you will need to make some changes to your SELinux configuration, but this is unrelated to Elastic Stack.

The truth is that I am the admin of SIEM, another engineer was in charge of ELK, my knowledge of ELK is scarce, I managed to install it practically by researching in different sources and finally I managed to get the services without errors.

The process I did was to install the RPM of logstash, elasticsearch and kibana with the command sudo rpm -i logstash.8.7.1-x86_64.rpm

Then I installed java and configured the Logstash Elasticsearch and Kibana .yml files.

According to what you tell me I must have some error in the .yml configuration.

You need to share the error you got on Kibana log or your system log while trying to start Kibana with SELinux enforcing.

For logstash, this is unrelated to SELinux, it means that you do not have any valid logstash configuration insed the /etc/logstash/conf.d/ path, which is the default path for configurations, Logstash will not start without a valid configuration, so this is expected.

For Kibana, also no issues here, it means that your server is running as expected.

The Elasticsearch log you shared seems to be the GC log, you need to share cluster log, it is a log file with the cluster name.

But nothing you share indicate any issues.
