Just a few numbers about the french community itself (which is a small part of
the whole ES community).
We started it one year ago.
We have 157 members here on the mailing list [1] and 255 followers on Twitter
[2].
On twitter, I can see about one new follower every two days.
On the mailing list, I think it's about 1 or 2 per week. We have 166 threads by
now.
The ES.org community is really really bigger than that ! 
That said, I had an interview with Shay (French content [3]) and he told some
numbers about the elasticsearch adoption.
Since the start more than 1.5 millions downloads with an increasing rate of 200
000 downloads per month.
I think that Shay will be able to give you more details about the worldwide
community. But if you look at google groups numbers [4], you will see that there
is about 2.9k users and about the same about twitter followers.
The thing that drives me crazy is the total number of github watchers (3192) and
forks (603). Just have a look at this the most watched Java Github repos [5].
