Snapshot for closed indexes

Hi Team,
Till now i was closing two weeks old indexes to free memory and it was Ok. But now we are having GBs of logs per day and this approach is obviously not good. Now i setup snapshots for two week old indexes.

But i would like to take backup of last three months indexes which i closed. I tried opening the index but it's impacting cluster (RED, due to shard failure).

Is there a way i can take backup of closed indexes? i want to delete these indexes after taking backup to free disk spaces. Any other approach to meet this requirement?

There is not. You will need to snapshot, then close, then delete.
