Snapshot & Restore : 6.2 version

(aniaks) #1

Couple of questions:

  1. is there any webinar for snapshot and restore ?
  2. Is it possible to change the name of the indices while restoring ?

  1. I did not find it.
  2. Yes. See https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/6.6/modules-snapshots.html#_restore

Thanks David ! It helped!

Should the number of nodes on the snapshot cluster and restore cluster be same ? What if the number of nodes are not same?

(David Pilato) #5

Not a problem. You are restoring indices not nodes.

(aniaks) #6

So we will have to have same number of indices and replicas on both the snapshot and restore clusters ... is my understanding right ?

(David Pilato) #7

You will have the same number of shards. For replicas, it will depend on the number of nodes. If you restore in a cluster with only one node, obviously you won't have any replica allocated.

thanks for clarifying !

If i have a 5 data node cluster - Shall i just run the curator to take the snapshot into a directory on that one node ? Is this the right approach ?

That's another question not related to the original one. Could you open a new thread?

sure
