Span types

Hi everyone!

I’m quite new with APM and I’m only using db.mysql.query span type.

I’m wondering which are the supported span types as I couldn’t find any list in the documentation.

Or is it an arbitrary string? If yes, how they be rendered in Kibana (I’m referring for example about the icon and other details in the UI).

This is the current state of the spec all agents conform to: apm/span_types.json at master · elastic/apm · GitHub and we currently have a proposal to modify it a bit.

For anything that doesn't fit anything in the spec, you can use custom.
