I get this error sometimes when I try to create an index.
My version of java in easticsearch is the same as the client server.

Elasticsearch are 0.90.6 in both.
I have only 1 node.
And jvm are 1.7.0_51 in both too.

You should also check if you have plugins installed and if these plugins
cause errors. For example, analyzer plugins may throw exceptions that are
local to a plugin.
If you create an index with TransportClient, you must also install these
analyzer plugins in the client, just for being able to decode the
exception. If not, you catch a serialization error.
I ran into same problem, version was correct, plugins installed, In my case
port 9300 was not opened for transportclient, once I opened it, it worked
fine.

Hi... I am also facing the same issue... but the cluster has started with
no ERROR, and the INDEX, DELETE operations also went well. while performing
the UPDATE Operation i am having the same ERROR
Note: Its script update
Elasticsearch : 1.4.2 three nodes running on java version "1.7.0_03"
Client Java Process on java version "1.7.0_65"
I am not having the ERROR message in Cluster log... while i call
updateResponse.actionGet(60000);
the Error come...
