Should I be adding my userid:password to the URL when I run that command from the browser search box?
That shouldn't be necessary since you're already logged in to Kibana.
I'm having a hard time reproducing this error. I'm going to try a few more scenarios and report back, but it likely won't be until tomorrow morning (Eastern standard time)
