Unable to create logstash index in Kibana

I am a newbie, I inherited an older elasticsearch, kibana, logstash, filebeat server and it is currently working fine, however I wanted to run the latest and went ahead and installed learticsearch, kibana, logstash, filebeat on a new Ubuntu Linux server but I am unable to create the logstash index in kibana, it does not show up when I try to create the index. Any help would be highly appreciated.
