With or without the replicas I see that the disk size of my index is reported as the same.
I expected it to double since replicas hold the exact copies. Is size really the same or just reported the same for brevity?

Has the replica shard been assigned to a node in the cluster? You can see this using the cat shards API.
Yes they are all assigned (STARTED) but I think the GUI I am using (cerebro) omits replica sizes since I can see that it occupies twice the amount on disk when I check.
