Alias Index & Alias fields usability in projects

Hi,

I'm using different indices names and different fields.
But i'm required to build common dashboards for them all.
I can't really change any of my indices or fields as they are important & can't change them.
I have seen Alias index and Alias Fields work.
But are Alias Index type and Alias Fields type practical in projects.
And if used , do they pose any problems in projects?

They are practical as long as you can keep on top of maintaining the mappings.
