Alternatives to mapping types in Elasticsearch

I understand that the mapping types are being removed, I want to know is their any other way out to have multiple schema in a single index?

Something like putting different schema in different shards for one single index? If yes how that can be done.

yes they are defining index per document type or creating custom type i am looking for any other solution if possible
