Cluster.initial_master_nodes mandatory when upgrading?

Hello Elasticians !

I'm asking is cluster.initial_master_nodes is mandatory when we upgrade from a already running 6.8 cluster to 7.8 cluster

I don't think so but if you could confirm..

It depends :wink:

If you are doing a rolling upgrade then no, you should not set this. However if you are doing a full-cluster restart upgrade (i.e. shutting down half or more of the masters at once) then yes this setting is required.
