I want to start adding some colors to the table section of discovery. That way I an easily differentiate where logs are coming from just by quick glances. Can someone help point me in the right direction? I am a decent web dev its all a little new, but I really want to learn how to customize kibana!

If you're looking to get involved in Kibana development, I'd suggest to look at "low fruit" and "adoptme" labels in Kibana Github repo for ideas of simple projects.
You can also take a look at outstanding PRs to see what changes are being made by core devs or other community contributors, here is one, for instance, that is related to adding color to fields in tables: https://github.com/elastic/kibana/pull/4594
