Custom Domain Names

Are custom domain names supported yet? There are a series of posts asking for them like Custom Domain Name

but each one just says it's "coming soon"

I do not want to setup a proxy (e.g. nginx) for this purpose, as the whole reason I'm using elastic cloud is to avoid the responsibility of maintaining a high availability service

Full Custom Domains are not currently supported in Elastic Cloud.

Custom Domains are on the backlog but no ETA is provided .. we do not announce product features ahead of time anyways so I will spare you the "Coming Soon". It is a highly requested feature there are just some other more strategic features ahead of it.

Custom Aliases are supported see here

But I understand that is probably not what you are looking for.
