Discovery.zen.ping.unicast.hosts and custom ports

Hi,

could somebody explain why i need to point ALL nodes (with ports) in discovery.zen.ping.unicast.hosts setting (my data nodes use custom http/transport ports)?
My understanding was, that i need to point master nodes there, and all other nodes would register and master nodes would handle the network state and gossip to other nodes.

Any hints?

In fact there are some necessary communication between data nodes. So data nodes have to know other data nodes' IP address.

I understand that, but the information about other nodes should be delivered to the node that joins the cluster. New data nodes can be spanned without updating the discovery.zen.ping.unicast.hosts..

Is there something i am missing, please advice. (I use ES v 2.4)
