are kibana and elasticsearch are meant to be together ?? Can we use kibana with some other search engine other than elasticsearch or is it meant to be only with elasticsearch?

It only works with Elasticsearch.
Actually, logstash and kibana have been ported to run with Solr. You can find information here https://github.com/LucidWorks/banana
These ports are based on older versions, and given the speed at which Elastic is moving, they are always going to lag behind. I've run into very few people using this port in practice.
