ElasticSearch Long Time Range

Hi - this is likely a newbie question…

I have limited experience with Grafana and ElasticSearch, but love my experience with both so far.

I have a set of data streaming into Elastic, and it displays perfectly in Grafana for relatively short time ranges (under 2 days). When I hit a longer time range (let’s say 2 months) however, it completely crashes my Elastic instance.

I assume that this could be fixed by adding more resources to my Elastic server, but I wanted to check… is this typical? Anything that is normally done to optimize and prevent this?

In order to determine that we need a little more information about your setup
Can you give more information about your Elasticsearch setup and queries?

  • What sort of server(s) are you running Elasticsearch on? How much RAM do you
    give the JVM?
  • What sort of query/aggregation are you sending to Elasticsearch? If you have a
copy please do post it here so we can see it.
  • How is Elasticsearch crashing, is it running out of memory? Circuit breaker
    tripping?
