Elasticsearch on-premise licensing

Hi all,

I have a question regarding Elasticsearch licensing.

I got a license for an on-premise Elasticsearch deployment that says max_nodes=12.
I know I can apply it to an Elasticsearch cluster comprised of up to 12 data nodes.

But I was wondering, what if I have two clusters, each one of 6 data nodes?
Can I use the same license for both the two clusters?
What I mean is, is there a way to "split" the license in the case I don't want a cluster of 12 data nodes anymore?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, bu I tried to look on the Elastic website and in other places on the Internet, but I could not find any answer.

You should definitely contact your sales rep and discuss about this.

My guts feeling is that you need 2 separate contracts but that can be may be part of a global agreement.
If you were using ECE to provide Elastic as a service in your company, that works a bit differently.

But please check all this with the sales team. If you don't know how to reach them, please DM me here.

Hi @dadoonet

thank for you reply.

I suspected that it was not possibile.

Nevertheless I'm going to contact the sales team through the Elastic Support portal to get more insight.

Thanks.
