Elasticsearch restore and read only repository

We are currently backing up using the snapshot API to a NetApp.
The snapshot repository is being synced to our DR site NetApp. The copy of the snapshot repository at the DR site is Read Only. We have found that Elasticsearch won't restore from a Read Only repository.

Is there a way of getting around this?

It's something we are looking at as it's come up for other users wanting WORM type datastores, but no ETA.
