Future versions of Elastic to not require field types

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct forum but have heard on the grape vine that future versions of Elastic will not require field types... anyone at Elastic able to comment further (time frame, impact to schema etc.)?

@nik9000 that's the one... just reading through the commentary... are these changes on course for ES 6.0 release?

They start in 6.0 and will be phased in as we get to them, taking care not to break during minor upgrades and being able to support indices from one major release back.
