Kibana 3 datetime format

Would someone mind clarifying this basic question? Using Kibana 3 I have the timestamp returned from the API as

2016-02-07T04:00:54.090Z

It looks like a standard ISO 8601 date format except the .090 is throwing me off. What does this represent?
