We were running kibana 4 on tomcat server using the kibana4 static package provided in https://github.com/kibana-community/kibana4-static/releases/tag/v4.0.1-static . Is there a way to achieve the same in kibana 5 ?

Unfortunately, no. Kibana 5 includes both a server and an HTML application component which are both required.
