Link Visualization to Search

Dear community,

I use Kibana 5.1.2 and have some visualizations that were created from a new search.

It is possible for these visualizations to be linked to a search afterwards?

I couldn't find any option and modification possibility for that. For now my approach would be to create a new vis with a linked search and replace the existing one. Having 30 visualizations is a very cumbersome work though.

Some clarity or a simple yes or no is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

@cinhtau,

Unfortunately, you would need to recreate the searches in order to associate with a saved search.

If you want to drill down on a visualization or dashboard, you can also use pinned queries: https://www.elastic.co/blog/stick-with-it-pinned-filters

Hi, thank you for your answer. I have to recreate them :sweat_smile:

Out of curiosity, if I have 20 visualizations that are linked to the same search, does that make the dashboard faster, instead of having 20 visualizations with a independent search, though the searches do not differ. Just to understand the Kibana mechanics. Is Kibana performing one search retrieval or is it doing 20 queries and fetches?
