One snapshot repository for different clusters?

I'd like to understand what will happen if (e.g. by accident) two different clusters will backup to the same repository. Is that possible/allowed or will it corrupt the data? The documentation did not hint in either direction.

The documentation forbids it:

If you register same snapshot repository with multiple clusters, only one cluster should have write access to the repository. All other clusters connected to that repository should set the repository to readonly mode.

If you allow two clusters to write to the same repository then it will at some point become corrupt.
