Reinstall vs upgrade beats

Hi

I have a question. I have recently upgraded Elastic search and kibana to 7 from 6.7.

On few of the servers I have prior to 6.7 beats version running. What happens if I uninstall 6.x version and resinstall filebeat7 instead of upgrading to 6.7 and then to 7.

Is there any disadvantage doing that.

Other than the work you need to do, not really.

Will I have lot of rework to be done and what will happen to the indices created by the old beats. Will it be still accessible or I cannot access it due to the new template and mappings from beats 7.
