The appropriate memory settings for elasticsearch-1.0.0

Dear all:
I'm a newer to elasticsearch. Now I will to develop a application
with the elasticsearch included. There is a question confused me. That's
the memory settings. I will use the elasticsearch-1.0.0 for my application.
there are tow settings that ES_MIN_MEM and ES_MAX_MEM I don't know what's
the appropriate values for them. Is there anyone can tell the recommend
values for elasticsearch-1.0.0. Thank your very much.
