Thresholds for Search Latency & What to do when Search Latency is high

Hello everyone!

Recently we are trying to develop a monitor for Search Latency in Elasticsearch. (The same as the Stack Monitoring chart) I researched optimum threshold values for Search Latency but couldn't find any document. When the Search Latency reaches the threshold we want to alert but we don't know the threshold value.

If you excuse me I have a couple of questions about it:

  • Can you please inform me about Search Latency thresholds?
  • How can we say our Search Latency is high or normal or fast? Which value range defines that?
  • What to do when Search Latency is high?
  • What actions should we take when Search Latency is high?

No need for thresholds anymore, we set it to 10s. My remaining question is:
What actions should we take when Search Latency is high?

Figure out why, look at hot threads as a start. Look at resource utilisation for your nodes.
