Currently on Kibana 4.1.1, I am attempting to visualize some ticket data. I have an opened date and a closed date. I want to have a bar graph that shows the number of open and closed tickets for a particular date. Is it possible to define the X-Axis simply as the time filter by day?

Below gives you timestamp on X-Axis and on Y-Axis you can select count you can also use your query parameters on the search bar..
below is the timestamp filter daily...
select the option as below on X-Axis
Aggregation -> Date Histogram
Field --> @timestamp
Interval --> Daily
