Hi, i'm new to Kibana, and looking to do some year on year trends using timelion. However I can't find any info on how to go about this. For example I want to track 'this year purchases' vs. last year purchases', and then put a yoy trend line on a different axis. Is this, or something similar possible?

It sounds like you'd want a 1-year offset to compare this year vs. last year's purchases. Tim Roes wrote a pretty fantastic blog article on how to use Timelion here which includes instructions on using offsets. You should then be able to use the trend function (also covered in the blog) to plot a trend on a second y-axis.
