Unable to use alias in index pattern creation

Hi,

I've seen a few old discuss posts about this, and this PR claims to fix it, but myself and others are still having issues using an alias for index pattern creation.

Furthermore, creating the pattern on an older version of Kibana works, but cannot be used in newer version of kibana.

I reproduced on 6.5 and 6.6, and this comment indicates 7.0 (rc) too https://github.com/elastic/kibana/pull/16715#issuecomment-481010986

This is fine on 7.0.0 which was released yesterday. I am going to check on 6.5 and 6.7.

We're likely a little ways off from 7, but can get to 6.7.1 soon if it's fixed there.

I've added a note to the discussion on Github, let's continue the conversation there so the others can more easily follow along.

TL;DR: for some reason I'm not able to reproduce this, but there may be something I'm missing.
