Upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.7.2

Hi team,

Please tell me how to upgrade ES from lower version to higher version without losing the dat.

Steps:
what i do is , but i am losing data in cluster.

  1. Donwload latest version
    2.unzip latest vestioin(will new create directory automamaticlly)
  2. Changing the configuration by editing yml file and given the node iP
    4.Stop the existing old version ES
    5.Start the service in new directory
    6.But when i start the service i am seeing data lost like index.

Please help me how to do without losing data

path.data should point to the same dir you used before
