Is it possible to upgrade ES 1.4.0 to 1.4.3 with Yum without data loss?

Yes.
The data and logging directories are not over written, and if you have made
changes to the config files (init or sysconfig) then yum should warn you
and ask if you want to replace them - which you won't want to do in most
cases.
