I have created a Discovery View that I would like to use in a dashboard , but I could not find a way to align text in certain columns. Is there a way to do it? I understand Discovery are just for looking up data without much of formatting and styling but what if it needs to be referenced in a dashboard?
Thanks
This is also what shows when i add my discovery view to dashboard through "Add from Library" Option. The values seem to be right aligned and I would like to have it Centered.
Just a side note and maybe Im still new this but my impression when I started learning Elastic is that as a "Search Engine" you can use something like Kibana to create your custom user experience search interface where you can add filters as dropdown columns, decide what fields to show\hide in the filter search bar dropdown , design layout for my search result and set colors and so and so forth. I struggled with this so much to then realize that these options are not available . Im not sure what am I missing from context of Search Engine tool like Elastic and UI Plugin like Kibana that is designed to be the UI of that Search Engine. Thats only if you talk about traditional and term search, however if you talk about Semantic and use something like RAG , it seems you are own and you have to develop your custom UI. To me at this point and for what I need Kibana seem not to provide much of help.
One might suit your needs, or close, or might not.
Kibana is a tool for visualising and analysing data from elasticsearch. There’s a zillion ways data might be visualised ur analyzed, no single tool could satisfy every wish.
You can add filter drop down menu on Dashboards view. Just create a discover view and save it. After that go to dashboards view and click "add from library". For the drop down menu, you can use "controls" as of the below screenshot.
Thanks for your reply. None of the plugin really help me in what I need. all of them are summarization and aggregation kind of plugins. There is an actually a Table visual that does the same out of the box. I dont want to summarize anything. I just want to have nice custom search UI that I can put in front of user without having to develop from scratch so that I dont have to worry about maintenance and support.
I think Im still struggling with the concept of Visualization Tool built on top "Search" engine and doesnt allow you to create custom search UI where you can align column text certain way!
Thanks Musab. I think you just repeated what I said and did not answer my question. Im talking about text alignment inside the column and not the column position. For example can you align the values in the agent.version column to show center of the column?
That you are struggling with that while worrying about whether columns are left/right/middle aligned? Wow, your user base must be precious++.
Btw, one of the 3rd party plug-ins is an enhanced table plugin. Someone saw the included kibana table support missed something(s) she/he needed/wanted, so added it. And took it from there, shared it with others, and maintains it. That’s the really cool aspect of open source!!
You can call me perfectionist or OCD depends on how you see it . I just wonder how designing rich UI experience around search and search results got left out of this. Again might be beginner mistake overlooking some of the great capabilities that these tools can provide out of the box.
I spent last couple of weeks trying to come up with end to end solution for our company that suffer from Cilos of information and lack of basic search. I went as far as taking advantage of things like embedding, semantic search and utilizing Gen AI through RAG without any prior knowledge to any of these topics . The only thing left was to present all these cool stuff to upper management through simple UI that they can relate to to then find it cant be done or its not yet supported out of the box. So you can understand the frustration.
I appreciate any tip\article\link\video that can get me going with this very soon because I cant wait to show how exciting these things are
Thanks and my apologies if I came of the wrong way. Yes part its frustration but you guys make these things so easy where someone can easily get over confident ; )
