Coordinating Nodes

Learning more about coordinating nodes so a couple questions come up.

  • If your cluster is secured with X-pack do I need to purchase another node licence for a coordinating node?
  • If you have the coordinating node for Kibana to connect to, can I turn off http/https access on the master/data nodes in the cluster? Can they just use the TLS transport connection? Then enable https only on the coordinating node?
  • Should I have 2 coordinating nodes for redundancy? What settings need to be in the Kibana.yml for rollover connection for the two coordinating nodes?
