Creating Roles based on Index

Hi,

I'm using v 6.5

I don't currently have any data in my cluster so I cannot create the index patter. I know what the index pattern will be but do not wish to insert any data as of yet.

Is it possible to create the roles associated with the index such as "write access to index" before we have the data ?

I have used a PUT index.initial

And then gone to roles and my index does not appear as shown below:

it is possible to just type any index pattern into this input field. Thats how we set up our roles with access to indices which only a few weeks later got created in ES.
