Disable Kibana (6.6.1) Upgrade Assistant to ES7

Same issue as described in this topic Disable Kibana Upgrade Assistant (5.6)

I am looking for a way to disable the upgrade assistant to elasticsearch 7 (for now).

In the other post it was recommended to set the setting xpack.upgrade.enabled: false , this however does not seem to work anymore.

FATAL Error: "xpack.upgrade.enabled" setting was not applied. Check for spelling errors and ensure that expected plugins are installed.

Also tried xpack.upgrade_assistant.enabled: false with same outcome.

Is there a way to achieve this with Kibana 6.6.1?

I've confirmed this is a bug that is fixed in 7.x but was not fixed in 6.x. I'll work on getting this fixed in a future 6.7.x release.
