Elastic Stack 9.3?

We just upgraded our elastic stack from 8.19 to 9.2. When upgrading kibana (elasticsearch on 9.2.4), we get an error: kibana 9.3 cannot communicate to elasticsearch 9.2.4.

There is no announcement on the release notes, no download for 9.3 anywhere, just on the deb repo.

What’s wrong?

As of now 9.3.0 is available for all of elasticsearch, logstash, and kibana on the deb repos.

Get:1 https://artifacts.elastic.co/packages/9.x/apt stable/main amd64 elasticsearch amd64 9.3.0 [666 MB]
Get:2 https://artifacts.elastic.co/packages/9.x/apt stable/main amd64 kibana amd64 9.3.0 [378 MB]

Maybe somebody pulled the lever a little bit early?

EDIT: rpm repo is also upgraded to 9.3.0

EDIT2: a couple of hours later

but release notes link go to 9.2.25 (sic). I think ... better leave it for a while and see what happens.

seem so. But there is not even a 9.3 tag on github, just a branch with 9.3 and there’s a commit 1 hour ago - definitely after the package was built.

How did you upgrade?

apt update

apt upgrade

more or less - we use an ansible playbook

Yeah, if you have the repository enabled in your system, this can happen, upgrade the system would pull the last available version and 9.3.0 was released today.

Elasticsearch stack tools needs to be version locked to avoid this, or you can remove the repository and upgrade using the package, then you can control which version you are going to upgrade.

If you just upgraded Kibana, you can remove it and install the desired version.

If any of your Elasticsearch nodes was upgraded to 9.3, you will need to upgrade the rest as you cannot rollback an upgrade.
