kindly advise why I am being prompted to enter username/password when accessing ES. PLease find attached image.
I have installed latest version of Kibana and ES 8.1

Elasticsearch does not prompt this screen, you need to check if you have anything else in front of Elasticsearch like a reverse proxy as NGINX.
The username might be elastic and you should be able to find the generated password from the logs I think.
Is the output ok from browser?

If you want a UI, install and start Kibana.
If you want everything up and running, secured and available in few minutes, just start a cluster on cloud.elastic.co.
