ELK licensing and security

My company is looking at a logging suite and ELK seemed promising. However, as I was exploring Elasticsearch and Kibana, I found this subscriptions doc showing that Security cannot be implemented for free version.

Is this understanding correct? So basically if you don't pay, there would be no TLS support?

That's correct. Security is available with a commercial license. You can try it for free by enabling the trial from Kibana interface.

That doesn't sound right.. Alerting and Machine Learning being on paid versions is understandable, but Security?
