ELK - SAS drivers

Colleagues, good afternoon!

Please tell me about the following issue.
We plan to consider the possibility of deploying Elastic in our infrastructure, however, at the moment the main available storage is SAS disks.

The question arises: how correct and appropriate is it to place Elastic (Elasticsearch) on SAS disks?
Interested in practical experience:

  1. Has anyone used a similar configuration?;
  2. what might be the performance limitations?;
  3. is this acceptable for a production environment, or is it better to consider only SSD/NVMe?

I would be grateful for any experience, recommendations or best practices.

SAS is the interface, more important is the type of disk media, spinning HDDs or SSDs or ...

Your other thread seemed to cover this, certainly some people use HDDs (over SATA or SAS or otherwise) and it works OK for them. In 2026, I simply wouldn't even consider HDDs for elasticsearch in a production environment. Like trying to run a restaurant with only one stove - can sort of maybe work for a while, you just need hope you dont get too many customers!
