Error occurred during initialization of VM

I have a Windows10 Machine...

I installed the MSI version.

Then when I attempt to start elasticsearch I get this error:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Elastic\7.1.0\bin>.\elasticsearch.exe
Error occurred during initialization of VM

I've also looked at similar errors with Logstash, and others, and those don't seem to be working.

What does java --version return?

I originally had 10, but then installed 8, and then got some messages saying security risk using out dated software.

So, I downloaded 12, and as you asked this question. I typed java --version

and got this:
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
