  1. According to https://www.elastic.co/support/matrix Mac OS X isn't officially supported, but I'd expect it to work pretty good anyway. Just download the .tar.gz file and unpack it. Make sure you have Java 8 installed.
  2. That question is much much MUCH too broad to answer.
