Is it possible to define a generic visualization so that you could choose the index in the dashboard and that this choice would be inherited by the searches, histograms and timelions ?
My data is organized with documents of a certain "type" in indexes for different domains.
So that a user could just change the index and get the reports without having to create a full set of visualizations for each index and a separate dashboard.

this is unfortunately not possible right now. But you are not alone with that usage scenario as can be seen from the corresponding github issue. Feel free to add your thoughts and comments on that to give it more weight.
