Kibana 7.0.1 Installing X-Pack/Machine Learning

Hello,

I currently installed the ELK stack v7.0.1 configured for ElastiFlow. I am trying to look for the Machine Learning trial that usually appears on the Kibana Dashboard, but it is nowhere to be found.

I have also been looking for a 7.0.1 download for X-Pack, but cannot seem to find it either. How can I install Machine Learning trial capabilities to my stack?

Thanks,
Eric

As of v6.4, there is no need to do a separate install of X-Pack - the features are now bundled and enabled via the "trial license" that can be enabled if you go to Management -> License Management.

Then click on the "Start Trial" button (in the middle)

Hi Rich,

I do not see the License Management option in my Management tab. Here is a screenshot of what I see:

I tried search for it, but nothing shows up either. Is there something that needs to be configured?

Thanks,
Eric

are you sure you are logged in as a user with full privileges? This is what it should look like for a full-privilege user when clicking on Management:

Notice that License Management is under the Elasticsearch section

It is also quite possible you installed the pure Open-Source version of the stack and not the full version(??) Notice on our default download page is:

https://www.elastic.co/downloads/elasticsearch

This download gives you the full version. But if you went to:

https://www.elastic.co/downloads/elasticsearch-oss

You would see the pure open source version and would lack any of the things you are looking for

Hi Rich,

It would appear that ElastiFlow Docker Images does use the OSS versions. Since that is the case, is there a way to upgrade to include X-pack and the ML features?

Thanks,
Eric

I don't believe there's a way to easily transition from the OSS to the full version as they are separate distributions.

ElastiFlow claims that you first need an operational Elastic Stack: https://github.com/robcowart/elastiflow/blob/master/INSTALL.md

If docker is your preferred method, you can install the full version of the Elastic Stack via docker

Hi Rich,

Thanks for all your help! I will take a look into it.

Thanks,
Eric
