We upgraded our ECK env to 8.18 + all clusters.
I noticed that with Kibana 8.18, when I use the search bar, it's very slow, usually just hangs on "loading results". I used to be able to search for most anything in the search bar, even dashboard names. But not it just hangs. At some point it gives results, but its much slower than our previous version (8.13)
Is this expected? Is there a way to fix this? Is this a known bug?
Hi @Dave_Houser
Way to general of a question.
What I would do is:
Run one of your slow queries in Discover
Go to inspect
Grab the query
And the run it in the profiler to see what is going on
Then come back with some details and perhaps someone can help.
Sorry for late reply.
@stephenb I am not sure I am following what you are suggesting. Is there a guide online to perform the steps your suggesting? There is a way to inspect searching from the Kibana search bar?
-
Run Query in Discover add the filters you want etc...
-
Go To Inspect Notice top Level Metrics
- Go To Request and Open in Profiler
- Look at profiler for long items
Long time since I replied to this. Just upgraded to 8.19.5, problem still exists.
I don’t think I was clear, but the search I am using is not a KQL search. I am actually doing a search at the very top of Kibana where it says, “Find apps, content, and more.”
For instance, if I search for “api” (for API Keys), the search bar just says “Loading results…” for a long time. I noticed that if I leave the page alone for a minute or two, then the search results work. It’s like Kibana is indexing a bunch of data on the backend and can’t provide me the results I want right away.
I can not reproduce that in 8.19.7 nor 9.2.2 ... not sure what is going on....I did not see a bug filed either.
Hello @Dave_Houser
I tried on 8.19.5 and as Stephen shared did not see any issues while searching using the search bar.
One way i believe to check the issue is right click on search & Inspect, try to search for API and see the Timing for “find” which can help where it is taking time to fetch the details :
Thanks!!
