Kibana - Error: No unique release file found!

Hello,
I seem to be experiencing the same problem reported here:

However, I am running Elastic 7.6.0 with Kibana 7.6.0, and I get this when attempting to start Kibana:

  log   [17:44:15.568] [info][plugins-service] Plugin "case" is disabled.
  log   [17:44:29.726] [fatal][root] Error: No unique release file found!
    at /mirror/jail/opt/incontrol/auditor/kibana/node_modules/getos/index.js:149:21
    at FSReqWrap.oncomplete (fs.js:153:21)

 FATAL  Error: No unique release file found!

I did not find a resolution in the above post, so I am asking for help to diagnose this issue. Both Elastic and Kibana were installed from the tar.gz files.

Turns out this is because there was no /etc/release file on my system.
