Manually backup data from frozer tier

Hi All,

What would be the correct way to make an independent backup (snapshot) of data in the frozen tier? If I take a snapshot of these indices, will the backup be usable as indices from hot/warm/cold tier or it will actually try to find the connected/mounted snapshot created by ILM in the default s3 bucket?

Snapshots by default can be restored to any/all nodes on a cluster irrespective of any tiering you have.

You can set allocation filtering to force the restoration to allocate them to specific nodes.

So, I understand that there is no issue/dependency with the existing snapshot the ILM has created for the frozen tier; the new snapshot will contain all necessary data.
