Oldest Version of Elastic Agent compatible with Elasticsearch 9.0?

What is the oldest version of Elastic Agent which can be used with Elasticsearch 9.x? The compatibility matrix doesn't show any 8.x compatibility and I have a few agents on AWS hosts that are currently pinned to 8.4.x and 8.11.x and can't be updated yet.

Thx.

I think that the compatibility matrix is missing information, it makes no sense for Elasticsearch 9.X (and the others components) to not be compatible with Elatic Agent on previous version.

I absolutely agree. But are they compatible with all 8.x, or just >= 8.17.0, or what? I have a few agents that are currently pinned to 8.4.x, and getting teams to update those is not going smoothly at the moment, however I'd like to be prepared to update to 9.x when I'm ready.

I'm not sure, there is zero documentation about this.

I'm on a similar situation as I'm planning the upgrade to version 9.X and have some agents on version 8.12.X, 8.15.X and 8.17.X, I've opened a support case to see if I can get this information.

When I opened a support case, the answer I got was "9.x". :frowning:

I've contacted our sales rep for help getting a better answer. For the moment I'm assuming it's similar to previous major version upgrades (e.g., 8.x is compatible with Elastic Agent >= 7.17.0), but it would be nice to know.

The main issue is that support sometimes will be based on the documentation, and if the documentation is wrong or missing they cannot provide much help.

A lot of times you need to escalate through sales or other contacts to get a valid answer.

It makes no sense for Elastic Agent 8.X to not be compatible with Fleet Server/Kibana/Elasticseach 9.X.

You need to able to upgrade the agents, so they need to communicate with Fleet since Elastic blocked the manual update for Fleet Managed agents as well.

I will try to get in touch with our sales rep as well if I get a similar answer.
