I am looking for a way to have the service status visualize into a green/red status based on its availability. This would be similar to 
which is under monitoring tab of the elk nodes

I have the application running as a service on the remote machine. I want to have a visualization in kibana which is able to show the service is running or not. Green if its running and Red if its not running.

We added the top hit metric in 5.3. You can use this to create a metric vis to reflect the status of the latest document from your service status like this:
